  • 01. Blink-182 - M&Ms
There was once a time that I liked Blink-182.
  • 02. Gameface - The Last Song
I went to a Gameface show once and in between songs, the crowd started yelling out "Last Song". I think that the band thought that we weren't into them and we wanted them to end their set, when in fact we just wanted them to play this song. We liked you Gameface, I wish you would have played longer or come back more often.
  • 03. Descendents - Coolidge
I think I probably listened to "Milo Goes to College" much more than the "All" disc, but this disc got a lot more representation on the mixtapes.
  • 04. Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Think Again
How come every MMBT song that I put on a mixtape was from this CD of cover songs? I really do like the original songs by the MMBT's, even though you wouldn't gather that from the selections that I put on this and other mixtapes.
  • 05. CIV - Choices Made
Holy shit - Civ from Gorilla Biscuits is back. Why is "Can't Wait One Minute More" being played on MTV and in commercials? Oh well, the album was still good.
  • 06. Down By Law - Revolver
Which version to you like best - Down By Law, Pegboy, or Mission of Burma? This is from the Yellow Rat Bastard EP.
  • 07. Bad Religion - Tomorrow
I'm not sure why I picked this Bad Religion song. It's not one of my favorites from the band, or from the Generator album.
  • 08. Judge - Hear Me
While some people might get turned off by the militant straight edge lyrics of songs like "Fed Up", I've always thought that a lot of Judge's lyrics were angry, but introspective in a lot of ways. In my opinion the "No Apologies: The Chung King Sessions" CD on Lost and Found sounded so much better than the Bringing It Down disc on Revelation. Another plus for Judge - I liked the Blitz cover song.
  • 09. Bold - Wise Up
Bold always seemed overshadowed by the other East Coast hardcore bands.
  • 10. Sicko - Bad Year
Sicko could always bring a smile to my face. I thought they were such a good band and I was very disappointed to never see them live.
  • 11. Agent Orange - No Such Thing
I took a gamble and picked up an Agent Orange album without ever hearing their music before then. What a good decision - Agent Orange was such a good, unique band. The '85 Buick Century proudly displayed an Agent Orange sticker.
  • 12. The Freeze - Criminal Inside
Why don't more people know about The Freeze? It's only criminal if you get caught. We did not.
  • 13. Black Train Jack - The Newest One
Black Train Jack were so melodic and good - I wish there was more sXe music like this. I had a big Token Entry sticker in my room for a long time. I wonder if that's still around.
  • 14. Youth of Today - Disengage
Elliot was dancing on my lap while I recorded this song. I wonder if they make the black Youth of Today shirt with Ray jumping (like the album cover for the Disengage EP) in kid sizes?
  • 15. Pennywise - Try To Conform
    Pennywise helped me skateboard.
  • 16. Screw 32 - Blind Spot
I saw Screw 32 with the Bouncing Souls at the Mercury Cafe when they used to allow shows upstairs. These guys surprised everyone by being such a good opening band. I'm glad I got to see them.
  • 17. Gorilla Biscuits - Two Sides
When I went to college, I wore my Gorilla Biscuits down to the cafeteria one night and some stereotype was like "what the hell is that?" - I told him it was good old fashioned straight edge hardcore. He laughed and said sarcastically "Oh..that sounds great. They must be pretty cool." I'm sure the Gorrila Biscuits could not compare to his wicked good times of listening to some Blues Traveler, the Dave Matthews Band, and/or the Counting Crows, getting "so wasted" and then telling all his friends about it on Monday.
  • 18. Seaweed - Selfish
I apparently felt compelled to only put Seaweed songs from the "Despised" album onto mixes. Where's the representation from "Four" and "Weak"?
  • 19. No Use For A Name - Noitall
This song ended up on both the "Mix Ripper" (which will be available for download soon) and this mix. Granted, I didn't make the "Mix Ripper", but I'm not sure why this song ended up on two mixes (I think that is a mixtape faux pas). In hindsight there are much better NUFAN songs out there - too bad I didn't put something from "Don't Miss the Train" on here instead.
  • 20. Bouncing Souls - Argyle
The Bouncing Souls are a great band that put on a great show. This is from the Maniacal Laughter CD that had a lot of other good songs on it.
  • 21. Earth Crisis - All Out War
Being a vegetarian, I really related to the message behind Earth Crisis. My friends wern't into it as much though.
  • 22. Ill Repute - American Girl
Nothing follows up militant animal rights song like a Tom Petty cover song.
  • 23. Small Dog Frenzy - Bye
Small Dog Frenzy (and later Acrobat Down) were in my opinion two of the most musically talented bands from Colorado. I still listen to the Davenport Champions and Dereliction CDs all the time. Thanks to Hans for sending me a bunch of rare SDF and Acrobat Down stuff for my Ultimate Mixtape project (Which is still in the works...I just haven't had time)
  • 24. Screeching Weasel - It's All In My Head
The Wiggle album was one of my favorite Screeching Weasel albums which was good from start to finish. Because I used to have a few songs on one cassette tape, and few more on other ones, it made listening to the entire album from start to finish very difficult. I eventually broke down and bought it on CD.
  • 25. Mr. T Experience - Disconnection
This is from their old "Everyone Is Entitled to Their Own Opinion" album. There were a few other good songs on this album, but since I had already used a couple other covers on this mix, I didn't want to include "Pleasant Valley Sunday" too.
  • 26. Minor Threat - Salad Days
The intro to this song and the bells were great. So many of Minor Threat's songs were so abrupt that they always seemed difficult to work into a mix (not that I didn't like them though).
  • 27. Snapcase - Steps
Snapcase is still great. Go listen to Harrison Bergeron right now.
  • 28. Pegboy - You
I'm surprised that Pegboy was never more popular. I always thought that they had a unique sound and good song-writing.
  • 29. Social Distortion - Telling Them
There's so many good Social Distortion tracks that it's hard to pick just one for a mix.
  • 30. J Church - Had It Right
J Church had such intelligent lyrics that always told an interesting story. Angie and I went to San Francisco a couple years ago, and one of the members from SF's the Plus Ones gave us some tips on places to eat and see. While we were there, it was fun trying to find some of the places that J Church sang about (that's what tourists from Colorado call a good time). I'm ashamed that I haven't come across more Cringer stuff on my mixes. Lance put out such great music for a long time, and he'll be missed.
  • 31. Insted - Good Things
Good old-school hardcore from back when it was a positive thing. I still have my Insted shirt (even though it's full of holes) - I'll never throw it out!
  • 32. Face Value - Stripped Away
Does anyone have this on CD? I just have a crappy recording on a tape, and it seems pretty hard to find the "Choices" album these days.
  • 33. Turning Point - Face Up
Another band that I'm surprised wasn't more popular. This is good, fast hardcore. I had no idea that the lead singer for this sXe band died from an overdose until recently. That's sad.
  • 34. Ignite - Call On My Brothers
From the original issue of the album. I really liked the Ignite / X-Acto Split as it was cool to hear some hardcore from other parts of the world, and I liked the pro-environment message.
  • 35. Angelic Upstarts - I Think It Should Be Free
I liked classic punk music, but none of my friends did. I added in some Angelic Upstarts to open their eyes. I don't think I ever sold anyone on the merits of the X-Ray Spex though.
  • 36. Ryker's - Together
German Hardcore. Let's call this what it really is...metal. Still I liked it. I think this shared a cassette tape with Vision of Disorder's self-titled album - That was a powerful combo.
  • 37. One Life Crew - Str-Hate Edge
Matt's diatribe alert...Why I put this on the mix I don't know. I guess I got caught up in the whole angry straight edge thing for a bit. This is stupid though, and it turns out that One Life Crew was just a bunch of crazy right-wing conservative nut jobs that hated everyone. Straight edge (which I still am) is more than just branding yourself that, not contributing anything to better other people's lives, and using sXe as an excuse to justify your anger. Unfortunately, a lot of people in the punk/hardcore scene bought into this kind of macho crap. Looking back I can honestly say that this kind of tough guy bullshit, which was becoming more and more prevalent in music and at shows, was what killed hardcore for me. Too bad this song gets cut off at the end of the mix. ;)
