  • 01. Joykiller - Monday
This had a different sound than a lot of other stuff that was out at the time, but you could still pick up on a little T.S.O.L.
  • 02. Sinkhole - Deep End
This is from a 7" that Reed had. This song made it onto a fwe mixtapes, but I don't think I ever really had anything else that Sinkhole did.
  • 03. Blindside - Across the Line
Jesse Clayton from EHS sang in this band that was made up of others from school. I bought this from him one day when we were working at the Aspen Park ACE together. I remember listening to this on the drive over to the Genessee parking garage to skate. It's awesome when people that you know are motivated enough to be in a band and come up with songs, practice them and record them.
  • 04. Dead Kennedys - Kill the Poor
For some reason the DKs never quite seemed to fit into a mix right, and I wanted to try to put something different than a band's "standards" on this mix, so Holiday In Cambodia and Police Truck were out. Kill the Poor seemed to work though.
  • 05. Operation Ivy - Expression On A Face That Screams
I really liked this song from OPIV's "Unreleased Energy" album. I listened to the "Energy" disc on Lookout! Records almost everyday. Great stuff.
  • 06. Dead Silence - Sally
Dead Silence was one of my favorite Colorado bands. This was out long before 1998 and Dead Silence's music had great political lyrics and energy, which was missing from a lot of the "pop-punk" stuff that was around at the time.
  • 07. Wrong Approach - Mailbox Baseball
More Evergreen, Colorado music. I always thought this song was fun as I lived in Conifer (the wrong side of the tracks compared to "the Ridge" in Evergreen, but at least it wasn't Bailey - ha!). On Friday nights, my friends and I would go driving "off where the rich kids live" for some late-night trash can runs.
  • 08. Avail - Clone
Avail was one of the best live bands ever. Their songs were the best to scream out loud while driving too.
  • 09. Descendents - I'm the One
I was tired of always being the "friend" that could never get the girl, but always had to listen to them complain about the jerks they were dating. This song was possibly written for me. And the Descendents had just moved to Ft. Collins where I was living at the time. Coincidence?
  • 10. Scared of Chaka - Summercamp Helicopter
I sent my $5 cash to Scared of Chaka after buying the "Suckerborneveryminute" 7" and never got my t-shirt. I went to the Shins concert (with Viva Voce) at the Fillmore last year - I should have demanded my shirt then.
  • 11. Jawbreaker - Equalized
This is from the "Busy" 7". Jawbreaker and Jets to Brazil are still two of my favorite bands.
  • 12. 88 Fingers Louie - Selfish Means
I was so excited when 88 Fingers Louie finally put out a new album and then played a show at the Starlight in Ft. Collins. I think I had just been to that show when I created this mix.
  • 13. Social Distortion - Making Believe
I had broken up with my girlfriend.
  • 14. 11th Hour - Now
Music from Aurora, CO. I really liked the stuff on Paco Garden records.
  • 15. Crimpshrine - Free Will
Crimpshrine was a great band. This is from the "Duct Tape Soup" album. I had the "Crimpshrine" text elaborately drawn on my back pack in high school.
  • 16. Samiam - Sky Flying By
I liked the more mellow Samiam songs like this one and the Bridge. Samiam always reminds me of the sound of a lot of Dr. Strange bands like Schleprock, Brown Lobster Tank and others. I'm surprised I don't have any of their songs on my mixes.
  • 17. The Queers - Get A Life and Live It Loser
    Very poetic lyrics.
  • 18. Ensign - ??
Sorry I don't know the name of this song. It's on a cassette tape that I have with Ensign on one sign and No Innocent Victim on the other side that Brian from New Jersey gave me back in the dorms before we went to see Ensign at the Starlight in Ft Collins.
  • 19. Embrace - Last Song
In between Minor Threat and Fugazi, Ian MacKaye was in Embrace. This is an interesting chapter in the evolution of his sound.
  • 20. Substitutes - Chicks and Beer
The Substitutes were another band from EHS. I forget all the band member's names as they were one grade under me - I think it was Stefan, Ed, and Jesse though. Stefan (lead-singer) went on to produce a 'zine called "Rats in the Hallway" which got fairly widespread distribution.
  • 21. Krupted Peasant Farmerz - Rednecks II
Krupted Peasant Farmerz are an underrated band. Maybe that's why I put tow of their songs on this mix.
  • 22. Gimcrack - Drinking Man
Like Avail, Gimcrack was an awesome band to belt out songs to while in the car or at a show. It was easy to lose your voice singing along to Gimcrack.
  • 23. Misfits - Bullet
    Texas is the Reason...
  • 24. Good Riddance - Jeannie
Another song that came out of the fact that I had no girlfriend.
  • 25. Fury 66 - Restraints
Fury 66 put on a great show in Ft Collins and were real nice guys. I liked the fact that they were straight edge, but weren't always throwing the label around or getting sucked into the sXe tough-guy routine.
  • 26. Seaweed - Rethink
Seaweed had a unique sound that wasn't really grunge or punk, but I liked whatever it was.
  • 27. Rancid - I'm Not the Only One
This is from the Rancid 7" (the one with the black cover and a Molotov Cocktail on it). I didn't really peg Rancid as a group that would have as widespread appeal as they eventually attained.
  • 28. Slipkid - No One Told Me
This is from a Slipkid demo tape that Brandon gave me. Slipkid was an Evergreen High School band. I think the lead singer's name was Randall, and that's Brandon Barnes of Rise Against playing the drums. I'm making up the names of the Slipkid songs because I never had a tracklisting. I had a sweet homemade Slipkid sticker on my graphing calculator.
  • 29. Parasites - Someday
I really liked the Parasites, but I don't think that many other people did. Putting the live version of this song on the mix instead of the better produced studio version probably didn't help.
  • 30. Bad Religion - The Positive Aspect of Negative Thinking
A short song to fill up some space on the mixtape. Like the Melting Pot mixtape, I'm not sure why I picked this Bad Religion song.
  • 31. J Church - On Dying Alone
I also liked the cover of Poi Dog Pondering's "Living With the Dreaming Body" that was on the Nostalgic For Nothing compilation.
  • 32. Everready - It's Too Late
Not sure where this came from.
  • 33. Pegboy - Witnessed
Something from the "Fore" EP needed to be represented on a mix, and "Never a Question" was in a 411 skate video at the time.
  • 34. Coffin Break - Why Should I?
Because "Wiser" had already been used on the Mix Ripper mixtape (coming soon).
  • 35. Homegrown - Face In the Crowd
One of a few poppy ska punk songs to make it onto the mixes. I was probably feeling lonely at the time.
  • 36. Youth Brigade - Live Life
Why didn't I pick better Youth Brigade songs for my mixes? This is from the Sink With Kalifornija album.
  • 37. Slipkid - Why?
I don't know if that's the song name or not. More EHS music. Not sure why Slipkid and KPF got two songs on this mix.
  • 38. Krupted Peasant Farmerz - Conditioned From Birth
I think this was from the "Tape from Hell".
